Why Front Wheel Drive Is A Smart Choice

February 16th, 2019 by

Lexus recently released a Lexus Insider article on Front Wheel Drive and how it makes a smart choice for winter driving. We found the article to provide important information on something we do not think about too often living in South Texas, but with the climate changing and polar vortexes getting a little too close for comfort recently, we thought it would be a smart choice for us to share the details covered by this article.

Weight Matters

Front-wheel drive saves weight and allocates it precisely where needed when driving in slick conditions. The saved weight not only helps to improve fuel economy and allow for more interior space (especially for sedans) but the placement of the weight is directly over the drive wheels for front-wheel drive vehicles which greatly improves traction. When driving on slippery roads, a front engine, front-wheel drive configuration is ideal because there’s more weight on the front wheels, which propel and steer the car.

Maintenance Matters

Another smart reason for driving a front-wheel drive vehicle is the cost-of-ownership benefits. You will see better fuel efficiency, as we mentioned earlier, but the real benefit is with maintenance and repairs. The front-wheel-drive engine and transmission have fewer components that need routine repair which can greatly lower your cost of ownership.

When it comes to drivetrain packaging, front-wheel-drive delivers smart returns that every driver can appreciate. And, since the redesigned Lexus ES 350 and ES 350 F SPORT are front-wheel-drive, this gives us one more reason to upgrade to the new model. Thank you, Lexus.
